Plans are afoot to tear down the Chinook Motel on Gordon Drive and replace it with a six-storey, mixed-use development.

Plans for the multi-level apartment with commercial space on the ground floor were presented to the city's planning department this week.

Developers are seeking a development permit for the project.

The proposal features 65 apartments, including 61 one- and two-bedroom units and four three-bedroom units, as well as four ground-level commercial units.

It also includes five ground oriented two-bedroom townhouse units..

"Our project proposes to address the transition from high-density developments on the east side of Gordon Drive to C-NHD (core area neighbourhood) designation for the west side of the property," the project description states.

"With pedestrian-friendly ground-oriented units placed along Lequime Street, the project also responds to the scale of the surrounding houses and any future projects that the C2 zoning allows and encourages."

Most of the residential parking would be located underground with commercial and townhouse parking within a ground level covered and secured parkade.

The developer is also proposing a rooftop amenity and green space.
