Each year, the City of Kelowna offers residents an opportunity to help “green” their neighbourhoods through their NeighbourWoods program. The initiative allows you to purchase trees at the low cost of $30 per tree, including taxes, and then plant them in your yard!

The NeighbourWoods program started in 2010 and since then residents have purchased some 1,800 trees to plant on properties throughout Kelowna. This year, the program opened 5 days ago and there are now only 120 trees remaining. They’ve even sold out of the Spring Snow Crabapple Trees.

As of this morning, you can still purchase French Blue Scotch Pines, Northwood Maples, or Black Hawk Mountain Ash for the discounted price. The pine offers low-maintenance variety that is deer resistant and drought tolerant while the Mountain Ash variety offers white blooms in the spring and beautiful orange foliage in the fall. The Northwood Maple offers traditional, bright red foliage in the fall and should offer low-maintenance pruning.

The tree supplies are limited, so register early for your trees as they are on a first-come, first-served basis. You can register for your tree by visiting Kelowna.ca/Parks
